Taras m
Russian: from Greek Tarasios or Tharasios, a name of uncertain origin, possibly connected with the town or river of Taras (Latin Tarentum) in southern Italy. St Tarasius (d. 806) was bishop of Constantinople during a period of considerable religious and political upheaval, and he is much venerated in the Orthodox Church. The form Tarasi is less common.
